Hotel Nova Sintra (Adult’s Only) was founded in 1946 by Mário and Etelvina Bernardo.
At that time, the then Pensão Nova Sintra quickly stood out for the quality of the accommodation and the family hospitality, becoming a reference choice for those visiting the charming village of Sintra, especially coming from Lisbon and Porto.
The terrace with a privileged view of the Sintra Mountains and the house restaurant completed the memorable experience we offered our guests.
In 1985, the management passed to the next generation, with Amadeu Bernardo and his children, Rui Bernardo and Ana Gavinho, making a commitment to continue the legacy of quality and proximity in service.
The year 1997 marked a turning point. Extensive renovation work began, and in March 1998 we reopened its doors with new energy and modernized infrastructure. This phase coincided with EXPO 98, which boosted the hotel’s visibility among national and international visitors, many of whom would recommend us to friends and family.
Between 1998 and 2009, there were 11 years of sustained growth and continuous investment in improving facilities and services, always with a focus on the guest experience.
In 2009, we were invited by Turismo de Portugal to start the process of official classification as a hotel unit, as a result of the recognition of the quality of our service. After several inspections, in December 2010 we were awarded the category of 2-star Hotel, with a score of 191 points — well above the minimum required by law (138 points).
We proudly kept the name Nova Sintra, as a tribute to the family that has managed this space since its origin and out of respect for the many customers who, generation after generation, continue to choose us.

“Wonderful terrace – and great hospitality” The hotel manager and all his staff were extremely professional, helpful & hospitable – we really appreciated their care when my husband became unwell. The breakfasts are top quality and served in a lovely breakfast room. Parking was not an issue – and the walk from the hotel to historical sites was very easy.

Nice Hotel with, a good location, VERY friendly staff I was travelling with my family, and the hotel personnel are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean. Breakfast is good. The location is good – center of town, you can leave the car – either go by foot to some of the attractions or restaurants or take the bus to the attractions in the mountains.

Exceptional The Sintra Nova Hotel was exceptional. My wife and I stayed there 5 nights. The staff, especially Bernardo, were very helpful. We tried 3 of the restaurants Bernardo recommended and had great meals. The room was large and the bed was great. The breakfast is varied and wonderful. The Hotel location is also great being about 100 m from the train station.
