All we needed to get started in Sintra!
Most travelers seem to do a day-trip in Sintra, but we decided to spend 1 night here since all our friend said it was the not-to-miss place during our trip to Portugal. We took the train here in the morning from Lisbon and the hotel was unbelievably convenient – just a couple blocks walk from the train station. Even though we arrived very early before check-in time, the staff was available to accommodate us with a large clean room on the ground floor (all the rooms are apparently the same size). It was bright and clean, and reminded us of a bed and breakfast. The staff was beyond friendly and helpful in helping us plan our visit around Sintra, we were so impressed. The hotel is pretty no-frills (no fancy bathroom or soaps, and the front desk is actually unmanned at night so we had to drop off our key in the mailbox when we left early the next morning) but fulfilled all our needs as a home base in Sintra. It was about a pleasant 10-15 minute walk from the old town center where there were a lot of little shops and restaurants. We ate at the nearby Cafe Paris (very beautiful, a little posh) and did a port/chocolate cup tasting across the square.
